Martine Bras wint in Holland Ladies Tour! (7 sept 2007)

Another Dutch Victory as Martine Bras gets the flowers:

The 2007 Expert Ladies Tour is completely the opposite of last year’s edition. In 2006 there were no victories for the Dutch girls (beside the Team Time Trial) as the German riders kept winning day after day. This year the fifth stage meant the fourth Dutch victory. It was Lotto rider Martine Bras who won today, she was the fastest in the sprint of a leader group of 13 riders. The leader group was formed in the closing kilometres of the stage. Germany’s Charlotte Becker came in second ahead of Swedish Emma Johansson who did a great job in the General Classification moving up to third position with only 9 second behind. The lead in the General Classification stay with Marianne Vos but her German concurrent Judith Arndt (who was in the leader group) came much closer, the gap is now only 4 seconds with one day and two stages to go. Marianne Vos saw Arndt reacting as the leader group got away but decided not to let her team-mates do all the work to close the gap. “Sometimes you have to gamble, not in the least because I was hoping that my team-mate Andrea Bosman could finish up the stage-win. Thereby I think that my chances of winning the overall classification are small, in the final time trail I expect to be beating by the specialists as Judith Arndt and World Champion Kristin Armstrong.” Was Vos’ reaction afterwards at Wielermagazine.nl. The 29 year old Martine Bras was having her own party in Overijssel. “This is the best victory of my carreer. Yesterday me and my team-mates mist the deciding move, that’s why I was focused on being there at the right time today. In the final I chose the wheel of Emma Johansson and managed to come out of it at the right moment.”
