Cargill earnings nearly triple
January 13, 2011 by Bob Meyer
Cargill reports second-quarter earnings nearly tripled thanks to global demand, rising commodity prices and its fertilizer business. For the quarter ending November 30th, the company had net income of $1.49 billion compared to $489 million a year earlier. Revenue increased 16 percent to $31.1 billion. The company saw increased profits in four of its five business units with only the risk management and financial segment underachieving.
Cargill purchased Unilever’s shelf-stable condiments business in Brazil in the second quarter, that deal should be completed in 2011. The company is also purchasing a German chocolate company and an Indonesian starch-based products company.
